Refocus

The observant will have noticed that I've changed the tagline for my blog. I am no longer going to pay any particular much attention to Wikipedia and related topics. There might still be the occasional Wikipedia-related comment, if I happen to find something worth commenting on, but it will not be a focus of this blog any longer.

So, if you're "here for the lulz", now would be a good time to unsubscribe. Trust me, you won't be missed.

  1. Isn't this about the third time in the last year that we've heard Kelly says she's not paying attention to Wikipedia?

  2. Kelly, thanks for the entertainment you have provided me. The glint in your eye and the laughter with which you have eviscerated wikipedia and its kool-aid drinkers will be greatly missed. To anonymous above, ask nicer and maybe Kelly will continue to give us the humor we need when we look at what havoc our hard work has dumped on the world and many innocent bystanders. So Kelly, thanks for the memories.

  3. You'll be back...

I say this not to denigrate you, but because I myself have tried numerous times to stop paying attention to Wikipedia.

Wikipedia has a lot of great ideas and potential. And a lot of failings. It's hard not to pay attention.

  4. I'm disappointed to learn that we won't be hearing your unique and valuable perspective with regularity anymore.

  5. Anonymous from April 13 4:22 PM CDT is right on the money. You've already promised this and then you casually went back on your word.

You are trapped. Resistance is... not possible.

  6. Sounds about right. I never really blogged about Wikipedia much, but the urge to do so was much stronger back when I edited actively. Now that I'm slowly drifting away, the urge is gone, and I can see why it's gone for you as well.

The other stuff you've been writing about is also very interesting, though, so I don't feel like I'm losing anything in this refocusing. Keep on writing about what you want to write about!

  7. Write about whatever Kelly. I'll still be reading.

Occasional jabs at the 'pedia are still welcome, of course :-P

  8. I hope you will take this the wrong way, but honestly, I get more value about your comments on woodworking, carpentry, smelting etc., than I do from your commentary on things wikipedian/wikimedian.

That said, do you have any theories on how the smelting of tin was perfected as a feasible production rate process, with the known difficulties of recognizing useful tin ores (even with sophisticated methods available to modern surveyors)?
