Much Furor about SlimVirgin

By now basically everyone has heard about the allegations that SlimVirgin is a spy. I'm not going to comment a whole lot on the evidence; if you want to review it, please do so. The thing I find interesting is the way in which Jayjg confirmed the rumors in an reply to a question I asked him back in June 2006 inquiring about his oversighting of every edit ever made by SlimV (SlimVirgin's prior account). I'm not at liberty to share the email -- it was on the super-secret arbcom-l mailing list that we all swore in blood never to reveal anything from, and I'm not ready to burn that bridge quite yet -- but on rereading Jay's response to my inquiry I'm quite convinced that he was blowing smoke then and is doing so now. The exact details of the rumors that are spreading like wildfire now may not be accurate, but I'd be totally unsurprised to find out that SlimVirgin is somehow connected to the the Flight 103 bombings. Why else would she have all of her edits to such topics disappeared?

What amuses me most about all this is how amateurishly done this has been. Jayjg's hamhanded attempts to protect his friend have actually done a great deal to draw attention to it. Jimbo and the rest of the ArbCom concluded that Jay's use of oversight back then was appropriate, but really it quite obviously was not. The horse was long gone from the barn at that point; while the content of the edits may be hard or impossible to find at this point (the edits were deleted before being oversighted, which means they're not in any of the dumps) the edit summaries and the articles edited are still very much available. So instead of proof we can only speculate, but suggestive evidence combined with an obviously hamhanded coverup will tend to convince most people. Jay's problem is that he's not as smart as he thinks he is. And while Jimbo's got his back for now, that'll evaporate if public opinion goes the wrong way. Just look at what happened to Essjay.

Fascinating stuff. I hear Jimbo's gone to bat for Slim on this one; it'll be interesting to see whether he has to eat his words again or not.

Update: Someone attempted to start a discussion on the administrator's noticeboard of this situation, but it has been suppressed by Proabivouac, whoever that is. Some people just never learn. SlimVirgin, a little advice: the only way out of this situation is to abandon your account. This drama will surround you indefinitely; the only way for it to end is for you to start completely fresh with a new one. You won't be able to suppress all discussion of this indefinitely, and the more you try the more people will be convinced of the truth of the allegations. You've made this bed; now you must sleep in it.

  1. Wonderful post, Kelly Martin! I hope that they don't delete this too!

You are exactly right, that when people start deleting things (and check out SlimVirgin's talk page deletions, and blocking of anyone who dared to ask her about the recent scandal), that people become far more suspicious than before. Combine this with SlimVirgin effectively owning virtually every policy page in relation to anyone ever finding out her identity, her conflict of interest, or her changing history (such things as WP:V) and you get a seriously dangerous individual. The most dangerous thing that Wikipedia can do is to change truth. Simply abuse by administrators doesn't matter much. In SlimVirgin we have someone who not only seems to be changing truth, but doing it with a covert agenda. IMO SlimVirgin, Crum375, Jayjg, and anyone else affiliated with that line of editing should be banned from Wikipedia if Wikipedia is to have any chance of ever being respected again.

  2. I'm not sure how the Wikipedia Clique can ban stuff from somebody else's blog... though they can declare it to be an Attack Site.

  3. Kelly, do you have any idea why Jimbo Wales supports Jayjg so thoroughly, in spite of the latter's blatant propagandizing? From the sidelines, I can only believe that either cash or bodily fluids have been exchanged ...

  5. I googled and found this[0]. If these people are controlling access to certain pages to supposedly distort infomation and using the power structure of wikipedia to remove rivals, is there a way to remove these people access to the pages that they seek to distort, which may only be a temporary measure as there can be anonymous editing or a new user account for these folks. Wikipedia does not want Jeff Bezos to edit pages on Amazon, is this not similar?

  6. Alternative explanation to Slimv oversights:

Slimv is the pen name she used to write a porn story. This porn story featured a woman who had a small penis, its a rare medical condition. The story is available here online.

A female who develops a penis would have been exposed to lots of testosterone and not much estrogen thus resulting in a slim hip profile as well as being somewhat flat. That person may also end up being a virgin because of apprehension about sexual intercourse, most people are worried enough about their first time just being regular old folk.

The SlimVirgin name is extremely meaninful in the context of her life, if this theory is true.

This hypothesis also explains to other strange events. First, SlimV name, whose contributions were all oversighted, tied her to the sexual story that revealed a lot of information. Second, her edits to the Pan Am 103 bombing tied the name to her identity. Both of these were oversighted in order to allow SlimVirgin to keep her sexual secret.

The truth of the matter is that this is all about SlimVirgin sexual issue, its not about spying or cover ups at all.

I think it makes more sense than I ever expected.

  7. Sarah's not a spy but she should surrender Slim Virgin. It's tough though, isn't it? Tough to stop being a figure when you have been one. You should understand that, Kelly.

"I'm not ready to burn that bridge quite yet." LOL. I'll bet you're not.

  8. Need evidence of Slimvirgin's abuse?

    Here are her own words:

If you don't already help out at Wikipedia that's a great place to meet up. We have controlled animal rights articles there for several years, but the project is always expanding and we always need people to make sure new peripheral articles are slanted our way.

If you come over, just start commenting on any animal rights article and we will gladly recognize an ally. Branch out, contribute to a few unrelated topics, make a few spelling corrections, participate in the community discussions and when you have 1,000 edits or more, one of us will nominate you for administrator. That's where the real fun starts. We routinely block anyone who could pose a serious challenge to our control of animal rights articles. Once you're an admin, we'll sign you onto our list and give you the inside scoop on our latest campaigns.

    Wikipedia -- we own it!!!

What ever happened to Wikipedia's neutrality?

  9. The above Animal Rights Editing Conspiracy post has long since been exposed as a hoax. On the other hand, despite all the totally legitimate exposes of SlimVirgin's misconduct, she is still active as a Wikipedia admin, controlling content on the articles she wishes to dominate. Go figure.
